Enstructure to Receive $11.2 Million Federal Grant to Add Two New Railyards and New Railroad Track in New Haven, CT

Federal grant will assist with port upgrades to increase efficiencies in cargo handling and enhance direct-to-ground cargo unloading access

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut November 21, 2024 – Enstructure, in partnership with the New Haven Port Authority and Connecticut Port Authority, will receive a nearly $11.2 million grant as part of the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration. The grant will enable Enstructure to upgrade the New Haven Terminal, where it is the port operator, by adding two new railyards and over one mile of new rail track.

The project will increase efficiencies in cargo handling and enable new, clear access to 10 acres of direct-to-ground staging for unloading cargo and the ability to work cars from both sides of the track. Additionally, it will allow access to Enstructure’s warehouse for loading/unloading weather-sensitive cargo and provide direct tank-car access into the port for liquid bulk transfer and storage.

“Working with our partners, the New Haven Port Authority and Connecticut Port Authority, with the help of the PIDP grant, we will be able to expand the New Haven Terminal and ensure cargo handling capabilities are available to meet the increased cargo demand forecasts for the region,” said Matthew Satnick and Philippe De Montigny, Co-CEO’s of Enstructure. “We thank the Maritime Administration for its support and look forward to bringing this project to life over the next several years.”

“This investment in the Port of New Haven will improve the movement and capacity of goods, reinforcing supply chain resilience while creating good-paying jobs,” said U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro. “This federal support will expand the port’s cargo-handling capabilities and enhance logistics efficiency. The New Haven Port Authority, Connecticut Port Authority, and Gateway teams are now well positioned to make the Port of New Haven one of the premier ports in the Northeastern United States.”

The new railyards will also improve safety by minimizing cross-traffic from sharing a central driveway with dock traffic, significantly reducing the usage of a public street crossing, and allowing safe and unrestricted access to the railcars from both sides of the spur.
